Khumbulani Pride 2026 will take place on 23 May, from 9am, in Site C, Khayelitsha. The march will start at Engen Tembani Convenience Centre and move along Maphongwana Avenue, Solomon Tshuku Avenue, and Njongo Avenue, ending at Blue Community Hall. Here we will come together for a vigil, discussions, and a shared meal. This is more than a Pride event. It is a grassroots movement rooted in remembrance, resistance, and justice for Black queer communities living in South Africa’s townships. Founded in 2013, Khumbulani Pride was created to honour those lost to hate crimes, stand with survivors, and to demand justice. 

The word “Khumbulani” means “remember” in isiXhosa, and remembrance remains at the heart of the campaign. For the past 13 years, Khumbulani Pride has created a space to mourn those we have lost, while also calling attention to the ongoing violence faced by queer people in townships such as Khayelitsha and surrounding communities.
