Lindo Education Fund

My name is Frances Ayres and I live in Johannesburg. May I take this opportunity to introduce you to an amazing little 14-year-old girl, whose story is in no way unique, in fact, it is only unique in that it is a uniquely South African story.

Her name is Lindokuhle Nzuzo, Lindo for short. Lindo lost her mother at the tender age of 8, while attending grade 2 of Emmarentia Primary in 2013. The family that her mother worked for decided that she would stay with them during the week to attend school. Over the weekend she lived with her aunt, a domestic worker, in Parktown North. Only two years later, Lindo's mothers employer, Eva Ayres, who had become Lindo's stand-in mother, passed away from cancer. This past Sunday, 23rd June 2019, little Lindo lost the only other grown up, her mom’s sister Elizabeth who so sadly passed away after falling ill in 2019.

Lindo has now at the age of 12 years lost three mother figures in her life in such a short space of time. The fact that Lindo manages to be a happy and helpful child is what makes us all proudest of her....
