My name is Lizelle Du Plessis, age 38yrs old, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 11.

I started having severe diabetic complications during 2010, such as Retinopathy (loss of sight), only 15% eyesight left in both eyes. Neuropathy (loss of feeling in legs and feet) and spent 3 months in hospital.

During September 2012, I had a left, big toe amputation, after I started walking again, my bones was so brittle of the diabetes, that my ankle broke (diabetic Charcot ancle). The social worker applied for permanent disability status, and it was granted December 2012. I underwent three unsuccessful operations to keep the ankle in place. Thereafter they made a custom-made Crow Walker for me, to wear the rest of my life. In 2018 I decided to do an elective under knee left leg amputation, (meaning it was my own decision) to get relief from the deformity of my left foot, constant pain in my lower back and hips.

During October 2022, I had a TIA (mimic symptoms of a mild stroke). March 2023, I started swelling tremendously and was diagnosed with stage 4 Kid...
