Karla's Story

Karla is suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. She was born on 01/11/2011, and since birth, she has been very ill, experiencing numerous health challenges:

• Frequent lung infections, including pneumonia or bronchitis
• Wheezing or shortness of breath
• Poor growth or weight gain despite a good appetite
• Frequent greasy, bulky stools or difficulty with bowel movements
  Nasal polyps
• Chronic sinus infections
• Clubbing or enlargement of the fingertips and toes

Karla was born in Thabazimbi, where the doctors took many blood tests but couldn't determine the cause of her illness. After her father found work in Krugersdorp, we took her to Dr. Yusuf Dadoo, who referred us to Dr. Ronit Weil at Johannesburg's Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. Dr. Weil diagnosed her with Cystic Fibrosis after extensive testing.

Karla has been admitted to the hospital several times, including a stay in the ICU in 2021 when she also contracted COVID-19. She is on a daily regimen of 25-30 capsules of Cre...
