My name is Marc, I am 53 years old, and today I am fighting for a second chance at life.

In December 2025, while on a camping trip in Villiersdorp, I was bitten by a spider on my right big toe. What seemed like a small bite quickly turned into a life-threatening medical emergency. Because I am diabetic, the wound would not heal, and despite antibiotics, the infection spread rapidly through my body.

On 4 December 2025, I was rushed to Vincent Pallotti Hospital in critical condition. Doctors discovered septicemia, severe gangrene, and kidney failure. I was immediately placed on dialysis, and in order to save my life, doctors had to amputate my right leg below the knee.

In a matter of days, my entire life changed forever.

After surviving this terrifying ordeal, I was transferred to Faircape Stepdown Clinic, where I began the long road to recovery. I have had to relearn basic daily tasks, adapt to life with one leg, and regain my independence using a Zimmer frame.
