Leah Koekemoer, my daughter, was born on the 13th of September 2019 at Wilgers Hospital shortly after her twin brother, Marcel (Jnr) Koekemoer, my son. 

My husband and I went through numerous treatments in order to have children and after five years of treatments, we were pregnant with twins.  They were born at 36 weeks. Marcel was born with no complications, but Leah had severe complications and setbacks. 

 

Leah was born with VSD (8mm), PDA and Tracheal Stenosis. She underwent her 1st operation at the age of 3 weeks, this was on a Monday. The next morning, Tuesday, Leah suffered a stroke which changed her and our lives forever. She has a spot on her brain due to the seizure which causes her to have epilepsy.  She received her second operation the same day, open heart surgery. On Wednesday she received her 3rd operation for her Tracheal operation. 

 

Leah spent the next five months of her life in CTICU in Sunninghill Hospital before she could go home on oxygen. She spent the first year on chronic oxygen is...
