About This Campaign
Hi, my name is Mia! I live in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, and I'm a transgender woman- this is a fund to help pay for a surgery and general medical costs, such as estradiol for my hormone treatment.
I am 18, and I have been transitioning medically since age 14. It has, in no uncertainty, saved my life- it is the best decision I have ever made. Yet estrogen costs money, and while my family and I have been able to fund the estrogen treatment, we cannot fully fund surgical care- the specific surgery is called an orchidectomy, or orchiectomy. It essentially involves the removal of the male, testosterone-producing gonads, which means I will no longer have to take certain medications to prevent the production of T.
Alongside this, a small minority of funds raised here will go towards routine estradiol prescriptions. I take injectable estradiol valerate, and it costs around R1000 every 4 months. The surgery costs around R30k, and I'm seeking to cover the first 20 thousand or so of that.
