In the heart of Gardens, Cape Town – between Oranjezicht and Tamboerskloof – stands Monte Rosa, a Victorian double-storey care home built in 1885, bearing the cornerstone inscription “Jehovah Jireh” (“God will provide”). Badisa’s “Elegant Old Lady” has offered care, safety, and dignity for nearly 140 years.
Today she houses 111 residents and is managed by Badisa together with a dedicated volunteer board. But like all buildings of her era, she now needs renewal. To provide modern elder care, Monte Rosa must be upgraded – sensitively, with respect for her history, and with a clear vision for the future.
