My name is Kelly, I’m 26 years old, and I’ve been caring for my dad, Brian Ingram, since 2020. In 2022, he was diagnosed with frontal temporal dementia—a cruel, progressive disease that continues to take a toll on his mind and body.

When he returned from the UK in 2020, he had lost everything—his home, his car, his savings. With no pension and only a small monthly amount from SASSA and a little from the UK, we have been barely scraping by.

Now, my dad is very frail, falling more frequently, and injuring himself. His condition is deteriorating, and with that, his care needs are increasing. He may soon need to be placed on nutritional supplements as eating solid food becomes more difficult. He also needs new clothes, and all of this continues to fall on me financially.
