True development is not what shines in the city. True development is what reaches the village.
For decades, rural villages in South Africa were deliberately excluded from development through a system known as Afzondering, a policy of separation, isolation, and neglect. Villages were kept far from economic centres, infrastructure, and opportunity by design, not by accident.
Although apartheid officially ended, Afzondering never truly disappeared.
It simply changed its language.
Today, many villages remain without libraries, computer labs, or science laboratories, while cities continue to expand and modernise. The geography of neglect remains the same.
The Truth About Education
Under Bantu Education, Black children were intentionally educated only to serve, not to lead. They were denied access to knowledge, critical thinking, science, and resources.
This system shaped generations, and although it was abolished in law, its effects never ended in reality.
