2 AUGUST 2026 – KAREN HAS RECEIVED HER NEW LUNGS
The call Karen and her family had waited and prayed for finally came: donor lungs were available.
Karen urgently travelled from Bloemfontein to Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town and has now undergone a double-lung transplant.
Receiving her new lungs is an extraordinary answer to prayer, but it is also the beginning of a long recovery journey.
The BackaBuddy campaign will remain open to assist with the expenses connected to Karen’s recovery. The final costs are not yet known, and the family will provide further updates as Karen’s needs and expenses become clearer.
Thank you to every person who has donated, shared, prayed and supported Karen and her family. Your support has carried them through an overwhelming few days, and they will continue to need their community during the recovery ahead.
