NOAH: Heritage lives here

This Heritage Month, NOAH is celebrating one of our treasures: Pothier House, a listed heritage building that has stood for more than a century. Thanks to recent support from a local trust, this historic home will be carefully maintained for the future.

But Pothier is just one of 11 NOAH houses – each a place where elders find safety, dignity, companionship and purpose. While not every house carries official heritage status, every one is a repository of South Africa’s true heritage: the people who live there, their stories, their wisdom and their resilience.

Like any home, our houses need regular maintenance and care. Roofs leak, geysers burst, walls need painting. Without this upkeep, we risk losing more than bricks and mortar – we risk the wellbeing of the elders who depend on these spaces for stability and community.
