Project Dignity

My name is Zelna vd Merwe. My brothers, sister and myself would love to help our father, Norton Gillespie, to have life with dignity after life has dealt him a few hard knocks. A few years ago my father lost his one leg and in July 2023 he had another amputation and is now a double amputee at age 83. He has not given up on life and is working hard to regain as much of his independence as possible. He does not have a medical aid, and his operation was done in a state hospital. However, the state can only supply certain services and only up to a point. For him to have proper care, we had to look wider.

My brothers drove to Stilbaai on Friday 25 Aug and brought my dad home on Saturday 26 Aug. Through the kindness of so many friends, we have managed to secure a hospital bed that we are allowed to pay off. The wonderful caregiver, Esther, has also started on 26 August and she is so kind to my dad. We still have outstanding debt on the Stepdown clinic as well. We still need to make a few changes at home as well as equipment for him to be as independant as possible. We will need...
