For over 30 years, cycling has been my passion, my freedom, and the way I’ve stayed connected to myself and the world around me. I’ve travelled long roads, pushed through tough climbs, and always believed that with enough determination, the human spirit can overcome anything.
Recently, I set out on one of the biggest cycling challenges of my life — riding from Port Elizabeth to Walvis Bay. I managed to complete the stretch from Port Elizabeth to Mossel Bay (almost 400 km in three days) before something stopped me in a way I couldn’t push through this time.
I developed a painful double hernia that has now become urgent. The discomfort and pressure have become too severe to continue cycling or even manage daily life the way I used to. I’m currently unemployed...
