The Story of Pekingese Haven, 

My name is Diann Swanepoel, founder of Pekingese Haven in Kempton Park, South Africa, where broken little lions come to heal. 

My story with Pekingese began when I was a baby. I lay in my crib, with a tiny dog named Chinkey beside me, watching, guarding, choosing me. No one told her to. She just did. That kind of love never left me.

Years later, it came back to me in a very different way.

Chloe was found on a rubble site, covered in dust, blending into the ground… almost invisible.

She was only found because someone noticed the slightest movement. Her body was shutting down, discarded because she could no longer produce puppies.

We cleaned her. We held her. We showed her love when the world had thrown her away. 

She didn’t have long, but she fought to stay. In that short time…she changed everything. 

Then came Misha.

A black bag, covered in tar, thrown away to die.
