Yesterday, 18th April 2026, Matthew Els, 1st team rugby player of Pearson High School in Port Elizabeth was in a terrible freak accident during a rugby match against Hoërskool Outeniqua.
Matthew, a matric learner, is currently in George hospital in the highcare unit.
He has suffered severe facial fractures. And will have to undergo a few reconstructive surgeries in the next few weeks/months.
The George doctors would prefer surgeries to be done in PE. Unfortunately the medical aid won't cover the ambulance services to PE. We therefore have to make use of private ambulance to get Matthew back home.
Please please help!
Every amount, no matter how small, will help this family of five to be reunited. And it will also help that Matthew can receive the best care in PE.
Matthew is such an amazing and talented youngster. Always friendly, caring and humble.
