Please Help My Mom

On 30 August 2026, my mom, Hanelie Vermeulen, was admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with gallstones and pancreatitis.

After five days in hospital, she was discharged, but unfortunately her condition worsened at home. On 7 September 2026, she had to be re-admitted to hospital and was transferred to high care because she was struggling to breathe.

Further scans revealed that an abscess had formed on her liver, the infection in her pancreas had become more severe, and fluid had accumulated around her lungs, placing significant strain on her breathing.

She has now been in high care for two weeks. Although her doctors are treating the infections aggressively, they have not yet been able to determine exactly what is causing the ongoing infections. Her infection markers have been fluctuating — some days showing improvement, while other days they rise again. This has made her recovery unpredictable and much slower than we had hoped.
