Despite many challenges in her life, Simony Fraser's (21-year-old) greatest obstacle was being born with profound hearing loss in both her ears. Thanks to donations, she received her first cochlear implant when she was 11 and her second implant in September 2013.
The cochlear implant has made a remarkable positive change in her life, and she has been showing good progress.
With intensive rehabilitation and her immense dedication, Simony developed full spoken language over the years, allowing her to become an independent bursary student at the University of Pretoria.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, her processors have broken beyond repair, and she is currently without hearing.
Deprivation of sound will result in a decline in her speech and language abilities and negatively affect her normal functioning, work, studies, and day-to-day activities.
