About This Campaign
Red Mango Arts Festival – Event Description
The Red Mango Arts Festival is both a love letter to the vibrant city of Durban and a bold call to action to reignite the community arts scene that once played a vital part in conscientizing and bring people together.
In response to the steady decline in arts funding, ineffective leadership, and institutional let-downs, many artists struggle for livelihood without sustainable platforms. Therefore the Red Mango Arts Festival has emerged as a necessary and hopeful intervention and we seek to restore purpose, visibility, and opportunity for the creative and performance industries of Durban.
Hosted in partnership with the historic Sastri College and its alumni, under the directorship and vision of award winning theatre maker, Rajesh Gopie, the festival unfolds over four dynamic days in the Greyville precinct, an area steeped in history, and situated along the path of Durban’s once-renowned elephant routes. The festival offers a rich, inclusive programme spanning theatre, music, dance, fine art, crafts...
