Behind every suicide statistic is a person, a family, and a community forever changed. Across Namibia, the growing mental health crisis continues to affect thousands of individuals who struggle silently with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, substance abuse, social isolation, and suicidal thoughts. Many never receive the support they need in time.
The statistics are both alarming and heartbreaking. Between January 2020 and June 2021, Namibia recorded 745 deaths by suicide. During the 2022/2023 financial year, a further 623 lives were lost, averaging almost two suicides every day. In 2023/2024, 542 completed suicides and approximately 2,937 suicide attempts were recorded, representing the highest number of suicide attempts reported at the time.
