Rainbows And Smiles
About This Campaign
In the wake of the pandemic, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, I found myself profoundly aware of the fragility of life. As an ICU nurse, I witness the struggle for breath, the battle for life itself, each and every day. And it ignited within me a renewed sense of purpose, a determination to keep moving forward.
Running has always been a part of who I am, a rhythm that beats in sync with my heartbeat. But never did I imagine myself running 85.91 kilometers. Yet here I am, propelled by a force greater than myself, fueled by a passion to make a difference.
Last September, I participated in Rainbows and Smiles' "Run for a Reason" month. It was a moment of profound connection, of joining hands and hearts in prayer for the children fighting battles beyond their years and for the families walking alongside them. And for me, it was deeply personal.
My sister, Hannelie, was just 15 years old when she lost her battle with brain cancer. She was diagnosed at the tender age of 8, leaving behind memories etched in my heart forever. I was only 11 when she passed away.
