Help bridge the education gap in South Africa!
A little over a year ago, Vuleka St Martin's Jellicoe invited me to teach a volunteer extra mural Robotics class to their Grade 4-7s. In my many (almost 10) years of teaching coding and robotics, I've never met such a wonderful group of passionate and committed students. Unfortunately however, Vuleka does not have the budget for additional resources as they are a non-profit school, operating largely on donations. With the upcoming addition of Robotics to the national syllabus as well as the changing landscape of technology in education, providing these students with the opportunity to learn about robotics and coding from a young age gives an immeasurable advantage.
So far, we've covered coding using Scratch on their school laptops, have learnt about the basics of mechanics and have tried to integrate these concepts using a micro:bit.
