Seasons of Longing aims to be filmed in the Drakensberg mountains in August 2023. The production team is small, consisting of the two lead actresses, filmmaker, cinematographer, producers, stylists and assistants.
Seasons of Longing is a queer love film that took place long before our time. In a time where love had to adapt and survive.
Irene ‘Freddie’ Heseltine’s photographic collection, made in 1930s South Africa, reveals the hidden world she shared with her partner of almost sixty years, Petronella ‘Nell’ van Heerden. This short biofiction film will celebrate the collection by imagining the moments before and after each photograph was taken.
The film shows the emotional navigation of belonging and un-belonging: feeling free in the wild, open landscapes, but constrained in the house with the family.
