On Tuesday, 16 April 2024, @11am we received devastating news that my mom, Ronni, has metastatic lung cancer (adenocarcinoma), that has spread to her brain. We are in the early stages of finding out how to tackle this, but it is going to be tough.
As you can imagine, our family is in pieces over this news. As I type here, it hurts to rehash what has been replaying in my mind over and over. At 61, mom is still a baby.
My mom is a shy but proud person. She did not want me to post her story initially because she didn't want to ‘worry anyone.’ At the same time though, when I was holding her in the hospital after delivering the news, she looked up at me from the bed with tears starting to form, as if to say ‘please help me.’ I will never forget that look. I want to protect her and wish I could handle it for her.
And SO, I am determined to fight this wicked thing alongside mom. I am trying to explore every option possible, but it is going to hurt financially. We have medical aid, but that is only going to go so far (to cover the first line treatments...
