Run with purpose: Deliver degrees, deliver hope

My name is Tlou Mathiba, and I am the Senior Coordinator in the Department of Library Services at the University of Pretoria (UP).

My running journey started in 2018 after being recruited into the world of running by a close friend. What began as a pursuit of a more active lifestyle and better weight management quickly became something much bigger.

I meant to make my Comrades Marathon debut in 2020, but like so many plans that year, it was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. I finally ran my first Comrades in 2022, and from that moment I never looked back.

Running the Comrades Marathon demands resilience, courage, endurance, discipline, and mental strength. But beyond the physical challenge, it represents something much more important to me: hope for the future. Every stride reminds me that no goal is too distant when determination is paired with support.
