 UP RUN WHY DO I RUN? Every run starts by falling forward - put one foot in front of the other to break your fall. And then, as Newton's second law states, an object in motion will stay in motion. So, why stay in motion in the state of a controlled fall? Being visually impaired, I went to Prinshof School for the visually impaired in Pretoria. As a boarder we weren’t allowed to move off the school premises, which frustrated me greatly. In grade 6, one of the teachers started a cross country running group and we went for 6 km runs into the city. Initially I joined just to get out of the school grounds. To my surprise, I started enjoying the runs. Later, as a Physio student, the pattern continued. Run to get out, run to get away from the books and then, a new necessity for running: to get from point A to point B.  Run to catch taxis, trains, run because I’m late, run to catch lifts, run to get to get to my work station along the Two Oceans Marathon route (this one I did quite a few times - even as a qualified physio).
