This October, Michele, Mitchell, and Megan du Toit will be taking on their very first full marathon. We’ll be running the Cape Town Marathon on the 19th of October to raise funds for a cause close to our hearts: the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

Two years ago, the three of us completed our first half marathon and have run three more since. Now, we're upping the stakes and taking on a full 42.2 km, not just for ourselves, but for the children and families who walk much harder journeys every day.

The Red Cross Children’s Hospital is no ordinary hospital. It is the first and only stand-alone tertiary hospital in sub-Saharan Africa dedicated entirely to child healthcare. A third of their patients are younger than one year old.

This hospital holds a deeply personal significance for our family. It is where our beloved brother and son, Cameron du Toit, received treatment after being diagnosed with Leukemia. Cameron was born on 7 October 1997, and although his life was heartbre...
