SARZA Cape

SARZA is a team of volunteers, based throughout South Africa, who give of their own free time and equipment to assist with search and rescue operations and humanitarian relief. The unit is highly trained and able to operate in rough terrain, providing logistical, communications, rescue and/or medical support to EMS, WC Disaster Management, SAPS, Gift of the Givers, WSAR and the like.

Members come from diverse backgrounds – accountants, engineers, plumbers, judges, law enforcement officers, veterinarians, climbers, marketing managers and paramedics – but share a passion for helping those in need. Some members are medical professionals who work in the rescue field daily but want to give more and learn from different experiences.

Members buy their own uniform and equipment to use in rescues and use their personal vehicles and fuel to get to and from rescues. Much of the time, SARZA's vehicles and communications systems are instrumental in moving people and equipment around large rescue scenes, especially in the wilderness.
