SAYBN Flood Relief Fund – Limpopo & Mpumalanga

For the past two weeks, my home province and the neighbouring province in the northern part of South Africa( Limpopo and Mpumalanga) have been hit by devastating and relentless heavy rains that have intensified into severe flooding.

These floods have claimed the lives of over 30 people, with many others still missing. Entire livelihoods have been wiped out. Homes have been flooded, some beyond repair. Critical infrastructure, including roads, hospitals, clinics, and local schools, has been destroyed, leaving communities that were already facing deep social and economic challenges in even more dire conditions.

As a sustainability professional supporting corporate companies across different sectors on their sustainability journeys helping them assess, understand, and reduce environmental and social impacts while integrating sustainability into their business strategies, the urgency of climate change has never felt more real than it does now, as I witness its impacts in my own communities.
