Sbongakonke ("Sbo") Maphumulo is the 2023 male South African Irish Dancing Champion, and if you've seen him dance you'll agree that he's an incredibly talented Irish Dancer.
Sbo is also the first Irish Dancer of colour to achieve a Championship win (in either the male or female category) so quite a milestone for South Africa!
Sbo has qualified to dance at the Irish Dancing World Championships, which will be held in Glasgow in March 2024. Unfortunately, he does not have the financial means to fund a trip to Glasgow - and this is where the Irish South African Association - Gauteng Chapter want to help! We've pledged to raise R25,000 (approx. EUR1,250) to help get Sbo to Glasgow!! Sbo's dance school, the Duncan Studio of Celtic Dance, will be raising the balance.
