Scott goes to medical school…please

After 8 long years of applying and passing every entrance exam, on the 18th of December I was finally accepted into the Wits Graduate Entry Medical Programme. This means that I’ll be starting 3rd year medical school in January 2025.

The journey began during my Bachelor of Science in Human Genetics and Physiology, where I discovered my love for the medical sciences. My first application was in 2016 while completing my Honours degree in Biomedical Oncology. With the applications came the rejections which were disappointing and disheartening despite fulfilling all the requirements, applying at multiple universities and throwing in a distinction for my Master’s degree, for good measure. I wouldn’t be accepted for the next 8 years. With this door seemingly bared shut, I tried to find a job doing lab work after graduating from my Masters, this attempt was spectacularly unsuccessful. As a last resort, I decided to pursue a diploma course in Therapeutic Massage.
