Hi, my name is Shané Swanepoel.

 I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a rare autoimmune disease that affects the muscles, when I was 16 years old. Since December 2025, my condition has become much worse, leading to repeated hospital admissions and months in ICU after my lung collapsed twice and I needed ventilator support.

Everyday tasks like walking, swallowing, eating, and breathing have become a struggle. I currently need ongoing treatments, medication, and plasma exchanges while doctors work to find the right treatment plan. Unfortunately, many of these medical costs are not fully covered by medical aid, placing a huge financial burden on my family.

I am a mother to two little girls, aged 4 and 8, and with my husband doing everything he can to support us, this journey has been incredibly difficult. Despite the challenges, I remain hopeful and determined to regain my health so I can continue being the mother and wife my family needs.
