SJ's Transplant

SJ is a 17 year old boy and he was diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia on 27 December 2025. 

Since then he has been admitted in the hospital on a weekly basis to receive blood and platelet transfusions, as his bone marrow does not produce these products on their own. First he was treated with immuno suppressive therapy (IST) since January 2026 until July 2026, but this treatment was unsuccesfull.

He now needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant as this is the next and only option. This transplant is going to be done at a hospital 456km from his home town, as this hospital specializes in transplant patients and his doctors advised that it be done at this hospital. He also needs to stay there for 3 months post transplant (monitoring). 

His medical aid has been covering all his admissions and treatments so far, but they are starting to have difficulties with some of the available funds and might not pay for all the required treatments.
