Sticks for the Blind Eastern Cape - South Africa - 2025

For a blind person, having a proper collapsible navigation cane is essential. This long white cane becomes an extension of your arm, allowing you to walk alone and avoid injury. This life-changing tool empowers a blind person to become mobile and independent, accessing schools, shops, and workplaces with confidence.

These invaluable navigation tools typically cost over 00 each, making them financially out of reach for most young blind people. Additionally, they are almost impossible to find here in South Africa.

I used a length of electrical conduit pipe for the first year after losing my sight before I was able to import a proper long white cane from the US. This is a common story for most blind people living on the continent. Many students use anything from a car antenna to a stick from a tree, and most never have the opportunity to afford and import their mobility sticks. A proper graphite cane makes life so much better.
