About This Campaign
Thousands of disabled people in Cape Town rely on accessible transport to reach hospitals, workplaces, schools, and their communities.
When those transport systems fail, people don’t just lose rides, they lose independence, opportunity, and connection to everyday life.
In August 2025, the City of Cape Town announced drastic cuts to the Dial-a-Ride (DaR) service, the only accessible public transport option for many disabled residents.
These proposed changes would have:
• Restricted travel to limited peak hours
• Excluded blind and visually impaired residents
• Cancelled transport to schools, clinics, places of worship, community activities and more
For many people, this meant being stranded in their homes with no alternative way to move through the city.
Disabled Capetonians refused to accept this.
