I am 15. I wake up at 5:30am to swim before school. And in a few days, I'm crossing 7.5km of open Atlantic Ocean — from Robben Island to Blouberg Strand.
Not for a medal. For 100 children who've never been taught how to stay safe in water.
Between January and November 2022, 39 children under 14 drowned in the Western Cape. That number broke my heart. So I decided to do something about it.
R1200 sponsors one child for a full 12-week swimming programme By Glide Along Aquatics in Atlantis — lessons, a swimming cap, transport if needed and water safety education. Everything they need.
Every child deserves to feel safe in the water. Help me make that happen.
