Our little boy was born unexpectedly on 25 February 2026 at 31 weeks due to an emergency. What should have been a joyful moment quickly turned into a very difficult journey for our family.


He was born prematurely and had to be admitted to the NICU immediately after birth, where he has been receiving specialised care and monitoring. While he is a strong little fighter, the road has not been easy.


During his medical care, doctors diagnosed him with Hereditary Spherocytosis, a hereditary blood condition that affects the red blood cells and can cause complications such as anaemia and jaundice. This diagnosis means he requires close monitoring and specialised medical care during his NICU stay and going forward.


We are incredibly grateful for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him every day.


Unfortunately, the financial impact has been overwhelming. We had arranged medical aid cover with Discovery Health to start on 1 March 2026, but due to the emergency birth on 25 February, our baby was born before the policy became active. This has left...
