Community Appeal: Support for Ballito Mother Paralyzed by Stray Bullet

We are reaching out to our community for assistance for a family who have been left devastated after a stray bullet left Ballito mother, Itayi Madziwe (44), paralysed.

Itayi, a devoted mother of three children — two boys aged 13 and 12, and a daughter aged 7 — was tragically shot while shopping at the Stanger SuperSpar  on May 18, 2025. What began as a routine shopping trip turned into a life-changing tragedy when a deflected bullet struck her in the spine, leaving her paralysed from the waist down. The bullet went through her left side, through the ribs , the lungs and and is currently still lodged on the spine leaving her incapacitated and in pain.

Her husband recalls,

“I heard a gunshot. I turned around and saw her lying on the floor. I rushed to her, but I was told not to touch her and to wait for the ambulance.”
