Let's celebrate my birthday differently this year! The gift of giving is exciting - as it makes both sides happy :)
About 9 months ago I met an incredible woman - Sandiswa Gwele, CEO of a Cape Town based NGO Ukhanyo Foundation. Sandiswa helps young people from disadvantaged communities succeed in education. The goal is simple - to ensure that every student gets a #secondchance if they fail their high school exams (which unfortunately more than 15% do...).
This year Ukhanyo is supporting almost 90 students in rewriting their exams. They have amazing student volunteers teaching all subjects. However, whilst the classes have been held in Philippi village since March, they are really struggling with covering the most basic needs for the tutors and students.
It brought teers to my eyes when I realised that students often come to learn having not eaten that day....
