On Friday 20 November 2026, ordinary South Africans will march peacefully to the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria.

Why we’re marching
In 2015, the Competition Commission accused 28 local and international banks of working together to manipulate the rand-dollar exchange rate between 2007 and 2013. In 2023, Standard Chartered admitted to the conduct and paid a fine of R42.7 million. In June 2026, the Constitutional Court cleared South Africa’s major local banks, and the case continues against a small group of international banks.

More than ten years later, the case still hasn’t been heard on its merits. The value of the rand affects what we pay for fuel, food, transport and loans. We’re marching for transparency, fairness and accountability in how our currency is handled.
