If you’ve ever walked into the Village Café in Nottingham Road in the KZN Midlands, chances are you’ve been greeted by Derek Young’s big smile and even bigger heart. Derek has become part of the community fabric where he lives and works — always ready to help others, share a laugh, and brighten someone’s day.
Late last year, Derek was diagnosed with multiple melanoma growths and underwent major surgery to remove them. The operation appeared successful at first, but his recovery has been difficult. His strength has declined, and he now requires full-time care and a proper health recovery plan to regain full strength.
Derek isn’t on a medical aid plan, and the cost of private care, nutritional support, and the medicines and supplements he now needs has become overwhelming. Those who know him will know that he’s always been the one helping others — now, it’s our chance to help him.
