My name is Thato Nombewu. A student at the University of Cape Town, and I am studying a BSc in Astrophysics and Physics. My background is unfortunately similar to most people I know, I come from a financially challenged household financed by a single mother who works as a security guard and has to support me and my 3 of my siblings.

The reason for my campaign is because I owe over R150 000 in student debt, this is because of the year long battle I have been fighting against UCT and NSFAS regarding my funding eligibility for this current year. Sadly I lost the battle for this year, resulting in this outcome. I have no plan B, this degree is the only way I know I can get me and my family to a better place. Due to my mom's declining health I haven't told her and I'd like to keep it that way.
