At Common Good, we have spent twenty years believing that where a child is born should not determine how far they go. We also know that belief alone doesn't change anything. People do.
Buhle is one of a million babies born in South Africa this year. She doesn't ask for much. Just the things every child deserves: healthy food, a safe place to live, someone to talk and play with her, and parents who feel supported enough to show up for her fully.
For too many babies born alongside Buhle this year, those things are not guaranteed. And when they're missing in those earliest years, the damage is quiet and cumulative, long before anyone thinks to look.
