We are YourTurn — a group of UCT Genesis student entrepreneurs who came together with one shared goal: turning South Africa's textile waste problem into something people actually want to hold onto. Our first product is a one-of-one backgammon board, hand-cut from curtain, clothing and fabric off-cuts, with playing pieces cast from recycled bottle tops.

As part of our journey, we're raising funds to help us bring our next batch of boards to life and take YourTurn further. Our first batch sold out fast, and we launched at the UCT Genesis Expo to a strong response — a full stand, boards changing hands all afternoon, and more interest than we had boards to show. It was the first real proof that this isn't just a student project. People want to play.

This campaign is about more than money. Textile waste piles up across Africa — 70 tonnes of it every day, and less than 1% of it ever gets a second life.
