About 3 weeks ago, Theunus was playing with 3 magnets in his mouth and ended up swallowing them. He started having severe stomach pain, so I took him to the emergency room last Saturday. They did blood tests and sent him home with a prescription. We were home for about an hour when the doctor called and said he needed to come back immediately to be admitted—his infection levels were very high.
They did a CT scan Saturday night and found the magnets—2 were on one side in his intestines, and 1 in his colon. The magnets attracted each other, causing damage to his intestines, creating holes, and one hole in his colon, which is now leaking. He went in for emergency surgery on Sunday. The operation, which was supposed to take 2 hours, ended up taking 6 hours because the damage to his intestines was very severe, and they had to cut and reattach parts of his intestines.
He was then transferred by ambulance to a high-risk ICU in Midrand. On Friday afternoon, he went back to surgery for a second operation. They found more leakage. His intestines were disconnected from his...
