On 5 December 2025, our beloved father, Gideon van Heerden, was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident that left him with severe and life-altering injuries to his right foot and lower leg.

The impact crushed and tore through the tissue and bones in his foot, leaving deep open wounds, multiple fractures, and significant tissue damage. Several of his toes were badly injured, and the doctors are fighting to save as much of his foot as possible. The trauma has also affected blood circulation in the area, which has caused parts of the foot to darken and die off — something the medical team is closely monitoring.

Gideon has already undergone painful emergency procedures to clean and stabilize the wounds, but this is just the beginning of a long, uncertain road. His doctors have warned that he will need multiple surgeries to repair the damage — including possible reconstructive operations, skin grafts, and intensive wound care.
