Patricia's Legacy

Patricia Johnson was a dynamic, determined, and selfless woman who lived in the Vrygrond area of Cape Town. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and despite often extremely challenging circumstances, she spent much of her life caring for others.

About seven years ago, Patricia agreed to foster two children, Nabeelah and Naeem, who were at that time living in an extremely vulnerable situation. Patricia met not only their practical needs for food, clothing, and shelter, but she also made sure they received a good education and the emotional and psychological support they needed to thrive.

Sadly, in November of last year, Patricia died of cancer. At the time of her death, her only concern was for the future of the children. Patricia's open-hearted and capable niece, Tosca, stepped up. She put her personal and professional life on hold in order to nurse Patricia through her illness. With the help of a social worker, she also agreed to become Naeem and Nabeelah's legal guardian.
