In the far south of Zimbabwe lies Matibi, a region defined by resilience, yet scarred by drought, economic collapse, and a sense of abandonment. Here, the land has grown weary from years of overuse, the rivers run shallow. For the young people of Matibi, the future has become a difficult conversation. Each year, hundreds of youth leave for South Africa in search of work that often never comes. Others remain behind, trapped between fading traditions and a modern world that has little space for them. Alcohol abuse fills the spaces where purpose once lived, and the few community gathering points that exist are bottle stores rather than innovation hubs. But, amid all this bleakness, there is still one thing they love, one universal language: FOOTBALL. Every dusty ground in Matibi echoes with the laughter and cheers of youth chasing a ball made from plastic bags or old socks. Football is the heartbeat that still unites the community. It is from this shared love of the game that the idea of the Ecowise League was born. The Ecowise League
