About This Campaign
To all our friends, acquaintances, fellow Volkspeler and people who share in the love for our Afrikaner culture,
In the June/July school holidays, 7 members of Tygerberg Junior Volkspelelaer will represent the Western Cape Region at the annual national Volkspelelaer course (Judith Pellissier and Forming Weeks) for school-age children in Parys, Free State.
They are: Stefan van der Merwe, Danika Smit, Danie Smit, Anrich Brink, Hané Myburgh, Heinrich Kaiser and Elmea Smit.
History: The idea of an own Afrikaans Folk Song and Folk Games Movement originated in 1912 with S.H. Pellissier.
“Volkspele” arose in circumstances and on occasions where communities and families were happily together, where fun situations developed, and especially also with the joy of work."
The national course is attended by keen “Volkspelers” between grades 5 and 12 from all over the country and there we sing and play and strive as only “volkspelers” can. This is a wonderful opportunity for these children and we are very proud of their commitment and enthusiasm towards this cultur...
