UBUNTU: I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE
Ubuntu is an ancient African concept that embodies a universal bond of sharing and embracing all of humanity, reflecting our moral ideals and spirit as a country. As we witness the daily genocide in Gaza—the starvation, humiliation, injustice, and suffering—we also see the resilience, courage, and humanity of the Palestinian people.
We see evidence of ubuntu in Gaza, in occupied Palestine, and in the global advocacy network daily, as we unite to protect all life and prioritize restoring dignity and freedom. As healthcare workers with HCW4PSA, we cannot bear witness to Gaza without reflecting on the plight of South Africa’s most vulnerable, here at home.
The Ubuntu Project, in partnership with Gift of the Givers South Africa, aims to distribute monthly care packs to hospitals across South Africa, beginning with the Western Cape. These packs, symbolizing "humanity in a bucket," are a tangible expression of the spirit of Ubuntu.
